Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card-

The Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) Scheme for registration of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) was introduced by amending the Citizenship Act, 1955 in August 2005. OCI Card holders are entitled to multy-entry, multi-purpose life-long visa to visit India, exemption from registering with FRRO for any length of stay in India, parity with NRIs in financial, economic and educational fields except for acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties.

 

The OCI Scheme was modified on 9 January 2015 by further amending the Citizenship Act, 1955 and the earlier scheme for issuance of PIO Card was merged with the OCI Scheme.

Application for registration for issue of an OCI card has to be made online at https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome  Application form with self attested copies of all documents and prescribed fees has to be deposited in the Consular Section in the  Embassy. With effect from 9 January 2015, PIO Card Scheme has been withdrawn and all  existing PIO card holders are deemed to be Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) card holders. The PIO Card holders must obtain an OCI card in lieu of their PIO card by applying online at https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome

 

Eligibility for registration as OCI-

As per Section 7A of the Ordinance, the following categories of persons may be registered as Overseas Citizen of India cardholder:

(a) any person of full age and capacity,

(i) who is a citizen of another country, but was a citizen of - India at the time of, or at any time after, the commencement of the Constitution; or 
(ii) who is a citizen of another country, but was eligible to become a citizen of India at the time of the commencement of the Constitution; or 
(iii) who is a citizen of another country, but belonged to a territory that became part of India after the 15th day of August,1947; or
(iv) who is a child or a grand-child or a great grandchild of such a citizen; or

 

(b) a person, who is a minor child of a person mentioned in clause(a); or

(c) a person, who is a minor child, and whose both parents are citizens of India or one of the parents is a citizen of India; or

(d) spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an Overseas Citizen of India cardholder registered under section 7A and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than two years immediately preceding the presentation of the application under this section: Provided that for the eligibility for registration as Overseas Citizen of India cardholder, such spouse shall be subject to prior security clearance from a competent authority in India.

 

Provided further that no person, who is or had been a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh or such other country as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify, shall be eligible for registration as Overseas Citizen of India cardholder.

 

The OCI Card holder is NOT  entitled to the following:


i. to vote, 
ii. to be a member of a Legislative Assembly or Legislative Council or the Parliament of India, 
iii. to hold Indian constitutional posts such as that of the President, Vice President, Judge of the Supreme Court or High Court etc. 
iv. He/she cannot normally hold employment in the Government,
v. The OCI Card does not entitle the holder to undertake any missionary work, mountaineering or research work, without prior permission.

 

OCI Services-

 

 

1. OVERSEAS CITIZENSHIP OF INDIA (OCI) FOR  INDIAN ORIGIN PERSONS WHO HELD INDIAN NATIONALITY IN THE PAST.

 DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

a) OCI Registration Form duly filled up on line.

b) Copy of foreign passport of applicant.

c) Copy of Proof of address (Utility bill, driver license) or lease agreement with a copy of landlord’s Id.

d) Copy of Indian passport self attested (first two & last two pages).

e) Copy of Renunciation Certificate of Indian passport.

f) Letter of employer of applicant living in Mexico, addressed to the Consular Officer, Embassy of India, Mexico City, stating position and seniority.

Service Fee: MX$ 6,050 + 55 (ICWF) (Adults & Children same fee)

 

NOTE:  All copies to be submitted are to say:   TRUE COPY, SELF ATTESTED and signed by applicant.

 NOTE: Applicants are required to come personally to the Embassy from 9:30 to 12:00 from Mondays to Fridays, with the applications properly filled out in advance. 2. OVERSEAS CITIZENSHIP OF INDIA (OCI) FOR FOREIGNERS LINKED TO INDIAN PERSONS (FATHER, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, GRANDFATHER)

 DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

 

a) OCI Registration Form duly filled up on line.

b) Copy of foreign passport of applicant.

c) Copy of birth Certificate of the applicant duly apostiled and attested by the Embassy.

d Copy of Proof of address (Utility bill, driver license) or lease agreement with a copy of landlord’s Id.

e) Copy of Marriage Certificate of parents.

f)  Copy of parent´s passports self attested as a true copy (first two & last two pages). Copy of permit of residence (FM) of parents. In case applicant is not a Mexican, copy of permit of residence of Mexico is required.

g)Original Letter of employer of applicant in Mexico, addressed to the Consular Officer, Embassy of India, Mexico City, stating position and seniority.

3. OVERSEAS CITIZENSHIP OF INDIA (OCI) FOR FOREIGNERS MARRIED TO INDIAN 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

a) OCI Registration Form duly filled up on line. (Foreign Spouse applicant).

b) Original & Copy of foreign passport of applicant self attested as a true copy

c) Copy of Immigration card of husband or wife, if the person is married to an Indian national living in Mexico.

d) Copy of Proof of address (Utility bill, driver license) or lease agreement with a copy of landlord’s Id.

e) Original Marriage Certificate duly apsotiled and attested by the Embassy.

f) Letter of employer of Indian citizen, addressed to the Consular Officer, Embassy of India, Mexico City, stating position and seniority

Service Fee:  MX$ 6,050 + 55 (ICWF) (Adults & Children same fee)

4. OVERSEAS CITIZENSHIP OF INDIA (OCI) FOR A BABY BORN IN MEXICO OF INDIAN PARENT(S) 

 DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

a) OCI Registration Form duly filled up on line, signed and pasted with a photo ( in case of minors, thumb impression is to be pasted in the box for signature, left for males & right for females. Both parent´s signatures are required in the application form).

b) Copy of Birth certificate of applicant duly apostiled by Mexican Authorities  and attested by the Embassy.

c) Copy of Marriage certificate of parents duly apostiled.

d) Copy of parent´s passports self attested as a true copy (first two & last two pages )

e) Copy of Mexican migratory card (FM) of parents self attested as a true copy

f) Copy of Proof of address (Utility bill, driver license) or lease agreement with a copy of landlord’s Id

g)Letter of employer of father and or mother , addressed to the Consular Officer, Embassy of India, Mexico City, stating position and seniority

 Service Fee: MX$ 6,050 + 55.00 (ICWF) (Adults & Children same fee)

DECLARATION OF RENUNCIATION OF CITIZENSHIP OF INDIA ON ACQUISITION OF CITIZENSHIP OF ANOTHER COUNTRY .

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

a) Application duly filled up and pasted with the photo of applicant. The last address held in India is to be filled up in application form.

b) Declaration of renunciation of citizenship of India form duly filled up by applicant in the first section.

c) Copy & Original Indian passport to be returned to the Indian Embassy, or letter of the Government who retained the passport while granting a different nationality.

d) Self attested copy of residential address

e) Self attested copy of legal residence (inmigrado card)

f) Letter of the employer, addressed to the Consular Officer, Embassy of India, Mexico City, stating position & seniority

 Service fee: MX$ 3,850 + 35 for applicants who acquired foreign nationality after 1st. June 2010

Service Fee: MX$ 440 + $50 for applicants who have acquired foreign nationality before 1st June 2010.

Penalty:  if any as per Government of India Rules.
